Telecom group buys shoes for local kids (The Herald News)
Some area children left for school Wednesday morning wearing worn-out shoes and came home wearing a brand new pair, thanks to a local charity. For about 50 years, the Telecom Pioneers have been giving needy kids new shoes during the holidays. The local chapter, the Grand Prairie Consulate, helped 75 children this year, said Warren Harmon, the group's treasurer.

The King Street store, owned by Drew and Ernie Banis, is known for carrying footwear that mimics couture fashion but with a more affordable price tag. 'We made it 50 years, but with the economy as it is, it's time to close,' said Drew Banis.
